From Alberta to Abs: Shea’s 6-Week Fitness Transformation in the City
When Shea moved from Alberta to the city to pursue her studies in chiropractic school, she didn’t expect the shift in lifestyle to hit her so hard. Gone were the wide-open spaces, the active routines, and the easy access to movement. Instead, city life brought long study hours, a sedentary routine, and a growing disconnect from the active identity she once had.
But after just six weeks in our program, Shea lost 10-12 pounds, transformed her habits, and reignited her passion for movement—and her story is one that so many can relate to.
The Struggles of Transition
Shea, 26, came into the program feeling a little skeptical. Like many of us, she had the knowledge—she’s in health care, after all—but she lacked the accountability and structure to follow through. The transition to city living left her feeling more inactive than ever, and the weight gain she experienced during school started to affect not just her confidence, but how she showed up for her future patients.
“I just didn’t feel like a good role model,” she shared during a sit-down chat with Coach Joe. “I knew I could be better, but I didn’t know how to get back on track.”
The Power of Accountability
In that initial conversation, Joe identified a key missing piece: accountability. Shea didn’t need a crash diet or a punishing workout plan—she needed consistent support, a clear plan, and a community to lean on.
With that, everything changed.
Over the next six weeks, Shea got serious. She embraced meal prepping, stuck to her workouts, and committed to showing up for herself—even on the hard days. The results were obvious. She lost 10-12 pounds, noticed physical changes in her bust and butt, and most importantly, rebuilt trust in herself.
Kickboxing, Strength, and a New Routine
Shea started off gravitating toward kickboxing. “It was fun, it was cardio, and it was therapeutic,” she said. But as she progressed, she developed a new appreciation for the strength-based fit workouts too.
“I used to think I didn’t like lifting,” she said. “But now that I know how to do it properly, I actually enjoy it.”
Joe explained the method behind the program: kickboxing provides the cardio boost and fun, while the fit classes are slower-paced strength sessions designed to teach proper form and build lasting muscle. The combination? A perfect recipe for transformation.
Mindset Over Perfection
What really stood out in Shea’s story wasn’t just the physical change—it was her shift in mindset.
She learned to prioritize her health without being hard on herself. She learned that skipping a meal prep or missing a workout isn’t failure—it’s part of life. And that flexibility, when paired with consistency, is the true key to long-term success.
“To anyone starting out, I’d say this: make the gym a non-negotiable, prep your meals—but don’t beat yourself up. You can do this.”
The Journey Continues
Now, as Shea prepares to leave Toronto and continue her chiropractic studies, she’s bringing her newfound confidence and discipline with her. She plans to keep training, stay active, and apply everything she’s learned—not just for herself, but for the people she’ll serve in her profession.
“I just feel better. Stronger. More me.”
Shea’s story is a reminder that even in the busiest chapters of life, transformation is possible. All it takes is the right plan, the right support, and the courage to get started.
