Fighter of the Month: Oge Okanume
Oge Okanume is your Fighter of the Month.
Fighter of the Month does not go to the strongest person in the room. It goes to the member who shows up, does the work, and lifts everyone around them. Oge has done all three since walking through our doors less than a year ago. Take a look at what that consistency has produced.
Where Oge started
Oge is a nurse, which means long shifts and very little energy left over for a workout. Before Fight Fitness, training was inconsistent. Finding a routine that stuck was a struggle. Working out alone felt like a chore, not something to look forward to. Oge knew structure and a real push were missing.
If that sounds like you, keep reading. This is what happens when you stop going it alone.
Why Oge walked in
Oge started training toward the end of February. By the end of April, Oge decided it was time to fully lock in. The goal was a space with real accountability, great coaching, and a fun way to build strength without getting bored. In Oge's words, Fight Fitness checked every single box.
What changed
Here is the number that stops people in their tracks. Oge started at 268 pounds and is now down to 227 pounds. That is 41 pounds gone in a matter of months.
The scale tells only part of it. Clothes fit completely differently. Stamina is up. Athletic confidence is up. The person who once dreaded solo workouts now walks into class ready to push.
And the result Oge never saw coming? Winning Fighter of the Month for July. Going from a late-winter start to being recognized just a few months later was not on the plan. Neither were the mental toughness, confidence, and stress relief that came along with the physical change. Oge calls those gains just as huge as the weight loss.
How Oge loves to train
The FIT class is the favorite. Oge describes it as an incredible mix of functional strength and conditioning, with energy that keeps you pushed to your limits. It played a massive role in building strength and dropping the weight.
Favorite exercise? Deadlifts. Oge says there is nothing like lifting heavy with good form. It makes you feel instantly strong and capable.
Favorite kickboxing combination? Jab, cross, left hook, roundhouse kick. Coaches, you know what to call.
Oge's advice for anyone starting
"Just show up and give yourself grace. Don't worry about knowing every punch, kick, or movement on day one. The coaches and community are so welcoming. If you stay consistent and lock in, you will be amazed at what your body can do in just a few months."
That is the whole playbook. You do not need to be fit to start. You need to start to get fit.
The mantras that keep Oge going
"Consistency builds momentum, and momentum brings results."
"Focus on progress, not perfection."
Two lines. Forty-one pounds. They work.
