From Bullied to Confident: Leyang’s Incredible 2-Year Transformation at Fight Fitness
Every transformation at Fight Fitness is special, but some stories hit a little deeper.
This is one of them.
Meet Leyang, a 15-year-old member of our Fight Fitness community who began his journey with us at just 13 years old. What started as an attempt to lose weight became a complete shift in confidence, strength, capability, and self-belief.
The Beginning: A 13-Year-Old Looking for Change
Before joining Fight Fitness, Leyang weighed around 210 lbs. He felt unhealthy, tired, and unhappy with himself. But the toughest part wasn’t the weight — it was the bullying.
Throughout middle school, Leyang was picked on for how he looked. He found himself in fights he didn’t want to be in, without the confidence or skills to defend himself. His mom was hesitant about martial arts at first, worried it might make him more aggressive. But Leyang knew he needed change. He wanted strength. He wanted confidence. He wanted control.
He convinced her to let him try one class.
And that one class changed everything.
Finding His Place Through Fitness & Martial Arts
Leyang joined our Junior Dragons martial arts program and later transitioned into adult classes as he progressed. Under the guidance of Coach Chris and the Fight Fitness community, he found something more than exercise — he found capability.
He started the way many beginners do: unsure, nervous, and apologizing every time he threw a punch.
But he showed up.
And he kept showing up.
The Results: More Than Just Weight Loss
Over two years, Leyang transformed his body and mind.
Measurable Results
Lost over 30 lbs, dropping from 210 to 183 lbs
Went from running 100 meters to completing a full 5 km run without stopping
Improved strength dramatically, going from zero push-ups to confidently performing 10–12 in a row
Gained endurance and power, especially during sparring sessions
But the real transformation? Confidence.
When Leyang talks now, he doesn’t sound like the same kid who walked through our doors two years ago. He carries himself differently. He’s proud of who he’s becoming. He knows he’s capable.
And ironically, martial arts didn’t make him more violent — it made him calmer. More disciplined. More controlled. He learned how to defend himself, but also when not to fight.
As he put it:
“Once you learn the capability to hurt someone, you usually choose not to. You know you don’t have to.”
Why This Matters for Every Teen
We see this again and again: when kids learn real skills, build real strength, and develop real capability, they gain the confidence they’ve always needed.
Confidence to deal with stress.
Confidence to handle bullies.
Confidence to try new things.
Confidence to walk into high school knowing they belong.
It’s the Fight Fitness 4 C’s in action:
Commitment → Capability → Confidence → Courage
Leyang committed.
He built capability.
He developed confidence.
And now he’s stepping into courage — sparring, running, and preparing for future competitions.
His Advice to Anyone Getting Bullied
When asked what he’d tell another teen struggling like he was, his answer was simple:
“Just do it.”
Try. Take the first step. Learn what it feels like to push yourself, to get stronger, to get punched and to punch back — not out of violence, but out of growth.
Because confidence is earned.
And he earned it.
